The Trinity College Choir will perform “The Cross and Triumph of Christ 2012″, a service of choral music, at the Trinity College Chapel, Kandy, on April 1st Sunday at 6.00 pm onwards. This Easter programme of music has been held over many years and has now become a traditional event at Trinity College. Conducted to commemorate the greatest event in the Christian world, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross at Calvary and the resurrection, many confess to being moved by the beauty and purity of the choral singing. The Trinity College Choir has played a pivotal role in Christian as well as secular worship at Trinity and its surrounding community throughout the years, and continues to maintain and develop its rich traditions in choral music.

The earliest record of an organized choir at Trinity go as far back as the inception of the School, in 1872, which makes the Choir perhaps the oldest student organization in the school. From the 1940s, the development of the Choir has been marked with many prominent performances. Over the past few years, performances have improved tremendously under the direction of the present choir master, Lasantha Tennekoon.

The absence of the late B. Alexander is still keenly felt and his contribution as organist of the Trinity College Choir for 45 years is recalled with great love. Alexander was an accomplished musician who played the piano, organ, cello, and guitar by memorizing the music notes written in Braille.
With its open air concept, fine stone carvings and elegant paintings by artist David Painter which are considered exquisite masterpieces, the Chapel is highly regarded as being one of the best known edifices in Sri Lanka. Trinity College Kandy was founded by the Church Missionary Society (CMS), which brought with it the great traditions of English Church Music and the concept of an organized choir, whose existence depended on discipline and commitment.
