The SLRFU named a 30 man squad for the Kandy Reds team which will be coached by Nihal ‘Viper’ Gunaratne. Kandy has not yet appointed a captain and will have two strong contenders for the prestigious position. Trinity skipper and front row forward Murad Ramzeen will be one contender while the other will be the burly Anthonian skipper and number eight Sanka Rajaguru.

The Kandy Reds team will be dominated by the Trinitians who are fielding as many as 13 players in the final squad. Seven players each from Kingswood College and St. Anthony’s College will take the field while there will be a player each from Dharmaraja and ‘B’ division front runners Vidyartha. An interesting inclusion is Yohan Raj who has been picked from Sri Rahula College Kandy.

A noteworthy exclusion is Anthonian flanker Sajid Lahir who has been a consistent performer for the Eagles during the past couple of years. Lahir who turned up for the national squads in 2009 and 2010 has not been mentioned in the final squad.

The squad contains 13 players out of 30 from Trinity, all though Thisila Devinda & Dinuk Nayakarathne has been excluded from the squad due to serious injuries.
