It was perfect weather in Kandy at the Pallekale rugby stadium and the perfect setting for a high quality game of rugby. Trinity once again showed their might on the rugby field when they trounce their opponents Wesley College who had no answers to the power and the skill displayed by the lions. Trinity were well focused and a determined unit with the guidance of their leader Murad Ramzeen.

The lions from the hill capital stamped their authority right from the word go when their speedy winger Sashan Mohamed scored the first try of the match which was made possible by Trinity’s ability to work the line effortlessly. Rehaan Weerakoone carried his form from with the boot against the Josephians and was spot on with the kick. The score read 7-0 trinity. Trinity managed to score their second try with a striking run by their skillful center Kanil Seneviratne. Rehan’s attempt to add the extra points were unsuccessful. Wesleyites determination after the initial onslaught was rewarded with a penalty when the trinity line was caught offside twice which was successfully put through the post by their fly half Rahul De Silva. Trinity looked dangerous each time they had possession of the ball. Duminda Nayakaratne the dynamic full back of Trinity managed to mark his presence when he scored the third try for trinity off a set piece and with Rehan Weerakoon’s conversion trinity extended their lead to 17-6. The final try of the first half was scored once again by the Trinity winger Sashan Mohamed closer to the corner flag. Rehaan Weerakoon failed with the conversion this time. Score read 24-6 in favor of Trinity at the end of the first half.
The second half started well for Trinity when their Fly half Rehan Weerakoon scored a well deserved try under the post which was made possible after a few good phases and finally a pop pass by the nippy scrum off Somasiri. Rehan didn’t make any mistakes with the conversion. Sashan Mohomed completed his hat trick of tries when he scored in the corner flag. Trinity Center Dilshan was unsuccessful with the conversion.
Wesley managed to score their only try of the match through their scrumhalf Rishan Pramageeth when they took advantage of a penalty given by trinity for a dangerous tackle. The final tries for Trinity were scored by their Number eight Sean Foster and Second row Randika Alwis. The final score read 48-13.
Trinity emerged victorious at the end of the day and this win will certainly help them to gain confidence and to meet the Peterites courageously in the coming week which is bound to be a cracker of a game.
Stand out players for Trinity was Kanil Seneviratne, Rehan Weerakoon, Sashan Mohomed, Randika Alwis, Savinda Unamboova, Dinuk Nayakaratne and Sachi Perera. For Wesley it was Rishan Pramageet and Rahul De Silva.
