Trinity College ended the unbeaten record of St Peter’s College for the season by putting up a massive show in front of a large crowd at Bambalapitiya yesterday. The Lions in their efforts broke a 18 win streak which the Petes maintained from the start of 2010.

Half time Score – TCK 12 to SPC 10

Full time Score – TCK 34 to SPC 10

The Trinitians playing away from home got their act together well from the kick off and went on to collect their points from two goals and four tries after having snatched a close 12-10 lead at half time. the Trinitians first scored in the third minute through their wing three quarter Thisala Karunathileke. The try was converted by fly half Rehan Weerakoon. Randika Alwis was the next to get in to the scoring sheets when he scored 12 minutes later for the Trinitians to take the score up to 12-0 with the conversion going astray. The Peterites then came in with a bang scoring two unconverted tries in quick succession through center Sandun Herath and number 8 Isuru Alwis.

This was the story at half time with Trinitians going in with a two point lead 12-10.
The Peterites after an unbeaten run last year and with five successive victories this season were completely outplayed and managed to score just only two unconverted tries.

In fact Trinity College virtually had their own way in the second half with a tremendous performance where they added a further 22 points to their tally in the form of one goal and three tries while conceding none.

The match was almost even after 60 minutes of play with Trinity College building up a 17-10 lead with an additional try shortly after the interval. However thereafter the game turned into a one sided contest with a fierce late rally from the visitors.

Trinity College really showed their class during the last ten minutes of play while crossing their opponent’s goal line on three occasions to complete a convincing victory.
Winger Mohamed Shehan had another fantastic game for the visitors with three tries while prop forward Bhasu Karunatilleke, fly half Rehan Weerakoon and winger Thisila Karunatilleke scored a try each.

The star player Danushka Ranjan was starving in the line as the Peterite could not win most of the scrums and line outs. Trinitians outplayed the home side completely and performed some high class rugby.

At Full time Scores were 34 (2 goals/4 tries) to – 10 (2 tries)

Dilrory Fernando had very good match under his control.
