Science College made history when their under 20 team recorded their first-ever win over Trinity College in a First-XV rugby match, when the two team met at Mount Lavinia. Science College is reported to have played better rugby and edged out the Kandy school 12-11 on a newly laid out rugby field at the school’s premises.
An elated coach of Science College Mothilal Jayatilake said; ‘We played very good rugby and won. We played scientific rugby and our defence was superb. This win is good enough to be the upset of the century in local rugby. I am very happy. Jayatilake told that to ‘Sunday Island’ during a telephone interview.
The winners had collected their points through two tries and a conversion while Trinity had responded with a try and two penalties.
‘We played real bad rugby. Trinity had its chances and the team even blew the final chance that came their way off a penalty. Without kicking at goal, we tried to run the ball. If the kick was taken, the kicking range was about 22 metres. Science College played well and deserved to win,’ said Nilfer Ibrahim, Trinity College First-XV rugby coach.
Richard Dharmapala and Roshan Chamath produced a try each for the winners while Malith slotted in one conversion. Charith Kodagoda officiated in the match.

The U-16 match was won by the Trinitains having 17 points on their scores while the Science College players were unable to make any attempt of scoring. S. Gunathilake scored 02 successfully converted tries.
The U- 14 match was also won by the lads from Kandy with a massive margin of 63 points to nil. S. Ekanayake was on blaze having scored 03 tries. R.Madana was also outstanding with his playing as he chipped in with 02 tries.
Moreover the U-12 match was also won by Trinity College, Kandy having 50 points in favor of them. Avishka Edirisinghe scored 02 tries while Arron Franklin, Neranjan Vitharana, Amith Kulathunga,Warron Weerakoon scored 01 try each respectively.
