Under 19 Twenty20 Cricket – Trinity advances to Semi Finals

Trinity booked a semi final berth of the Under 19 inter-school Twenty20 cricket tournament with an easy 102 run win over Gurukula MV Kelaniya in the encounter played at the SSC grounds yesterday.

Trinity taking first lease of the wicket made a formidable 180 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs and then bundled out their opponents for a paltry 78 with Aamil Anas putting in another fine bowling performance.

Mahinda in hard fought win over St. Peter’s

Mahinda recorded a hard fought three wicket win over St Peter’s in the last quarter final match of the same tournament played in the evening session at the same ground.

Mahinda after bowling out the Peterites for a low score of 92 were made to strive for their runs before reaching the target in the 19th over.

St. Peter’s 92 in 17.2 overs (Nilochana Perera 19, Jason Bultjens 19, Denham Perera 17: Chalana de Silva 2 for 11, Sohan Kariyawasam 2 for 21)

Mahinda 93 for 7 in 18.3 overs (Sohan Kariyawasam 23 n.o.)

Semi finals tomorrow

The two semi finals of the Under 19 Twenty20 cricket tournament will be played tomorrow in the morning and evening sessions at the SSC grounds. In the first semi final St. Joseph’s will meet Thurstan at 10.00 a.m. which will be followed by the second semi final between Trinity and Mahinda at 2.30 p.m. The final is scheduled to be played on Sunday at the same venue.
