The Trinitians dishing out an excellent display of running rugby went on a rampage scoring as many as 11 tries against St. Thomas College in their inter school rugby league fixture worked off at Mount Lavinia today. The Thomians looked helpless against the Trinitian fast paced game and did not look at all threatening.

The Thomians opened the scoring in the very first minute of the game when their fly half Devin Jayasinghe fired across a 48meter penalty to put the hosts 3 points ahead. There after the Thomians dominated the game till the Trinitian flanker went on to score a try following an excellent passage of running rugby. Shehan Mohomad made no mistake with the conversion to put the Trinitians ahead.  The Thomians were given a chance to get closer to the Trinitian score line when Referee Dilroy Fernando penalized the Trinitian line for being offside but Jayasinghe failed with the kick.

The Trinitians then opened the flood gates as the Trinitian back lined dished out onslaught after onslaught against the Thomians who could only watch as the Trinitian threes “swooshed” passed them with no mercy. In the 23rd Minute of the game Trinity scored once more with Mohomad putting across an excellent conversion to put the Trinitians further ahead.  Four minutes later Mohomad made no mistake when he put across a 35meter penalty to put the Trinitians ahead 17 – 03. Devin Jayasinghe made an effort to claw the Thomians back into the game when he craftily put an excellent 30meter drop goal to have the Thomians trailing 06 – 17. Jayasinghe attempted another drop goal but failed. Jayasinghe who had an excellent game against Wesley seemed to have left his kicking boots at home as he missed another 35 meter penalty 2minutes later.

Trinity Skipper Murad Ramzeen who had a fantastic game in both attack and defense then scored following an uncontested run by the prop forward. Mohomad made no mistake with the conversion. Trinity 22 – 06 ahead. Trinity scored once more when the full back ran circles around the Thomians to let the fly half Weerakoon to finish. Mohomad put across the conversion to put the Trinitians ahead 29 points to 06. Centre Dilshan Kalaniyagoda scored on the stroke of half time but Mohomad missed the conversion. Trinity ahead 34 – 06 at half time.

Trinity went on to score 4 tries and 3 more goals in the second half to finish the game with a mammoth 75 points to 06.

The Thomians were simply outclassed and did not have the physique, speed or fire power to match the Trinitians. The Thomian camp was dealt a further blow when they suffered injuries to several of their key players.

The Trinitians simply played brilliantly as one team led by skipper Ramzeen. Each player complemented the other and the forwards dominated every single set piece not allowing the Thomians to settle down at all. The forwards supported the threes excellently ensuring they got good ball and the backs made sure they finished every move. The Thomians looked a sorry sight having no answer to the Trinitian attack. The Thomians have a two week break to regroup and recuperate before taking on Kingswood at Bogambara in another important game. Trinity will play minnows Science College at the Science College grounds in Mount Lavinia in their next game.
