The Asgiriya stadium in Kandy came to life when the Trinitians won their traditional limited overs match against St.Anthony’s College Katugastota  by 2 runs. The Trinitians regained the Sir Richard Aluwihare Trophy in their 31st limited overs clash with the Lions levelling the series 14 wins apiece. The matches in the series were not played due to bad weather with the year 2000 match not being played.

The Trinity team after winning the toss was able to post 230 runs after being shaky at 135/6. Right handed senior bat Janishka Premasinghe was the hero for them with the bat as he top scored with 56 runs with opener and vice captain Niroshan Dickwella scoring 35. These two coming in as the opening bat combination for the Lions added 55 runs before Niroshan got out. The skipper for the Trinitians Akila Jayasundara came in the middle order and scored 41 runs. The Anthonian bowling was tight as they kept the strong Trinity batting at check right throughout.

The senior bowlers for Antho delivered with the ball, with Captain Hiran Wickramasekara and Saranga Rajaguru picking up 2 wickets each.

The Anthonians chasing were looking good to topple the fancied Lions which would have created a major upset. Captain Hiran made a valuable contribution with the bat making 43 runs and was taking his team towards a certain victory. They were heading in the right direction when Saranga Rajaguru (70) and Yohan Woods (30) added 83 runs for the 7th wicket. The Lions pounced on every half chance they got and that was the deciding factor in the end. Dinuk Wickramanayake was responsible for a fantastic run out hitting the stumps from mid wicket. Janishka Premasinghe the man of the match was responsible for taking the last catch off the bowling of Kavinda Jayasuriya. Aamil Anaz was adjudged the best bowler after taking 3 wickets giving away just 39.
